With 4 to 7 inches of snow falling across Long Island, the National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m., when the snow tapers off.

It appears as if Suffolk might see an inch or two more than Nassau, according to the NWS.

And one thing is of note:

This December snow will be sticking around for a few days.

Temperatures will remain at or below freezing until midday Wednesday, when the high will be 43, according to NWS meteorologists.

Local inch counts (9 a.m.)

  • Islip: 4 inches
  • Miller Place; 3.5 inches
  • Centereach: 2.8 inches
  • Centre Island: 4 inches
  • East Norwich 3.8 inches

The advisory cautions people to plan on hazardous and slippery road conditions through the morning.

“Slow down and use caution while traveling. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions,” the advisory reads.
